death education

Our workshops, classes, retreats, and social events are all designed to foster community while normalizing discussion of death, dying, and grief.

death literacy is empowering.

Here to Honor works with individuals and organizations to increase "death literacy," or the ability to holistically engage with the end of life.

We take a collaborative, community-centered approach to death education. Participants can expect to examine their personal relationship to mortality while gaining vocabulary and skills to support the end-of-life journey, both for themselves and for others. In addition to the opportunities outlined below, we also create customized content and events to better fit your needs.

Through our in-person and online offerings, we bring death education to life as a blend of professional insight, personal experience, guided conversations, creative exercises, research findings, and individual reflections.

Together, we are learning to face our finitude and to reimagine how our modern village can meet one another’s needs around death care.

  • Here to Honor can help make space for emotional self-care through the lens of mortality contemplation. We curate retreats and workshops to cultivate practices of mindfulness and self-reflection, together exploring questions that invite us to examine our lives with more clarity.

  • Becoming more death literate equips us to make informed decisions and to better show up for others. Not only does this improve death care overall, but having basic understanding of the dying process, death and grief can lead to feeling more prepared and less fearful in many end-of-life situations.

Here to Honor currently offers two classes:

    • “Facing Mortality Together” - an introduction to death education through the lens of Christian faith traditions, especially useful for clergy, ministry leaders, and church congregations.

    • “Mortality is a Reality” - training developed for healthcare professionals and specialized caregivers to encourage practical learning, personal reflection, and peer-to-peer sharing around end-of-life needs.

  • Here to Honor draws from its multidisciplinary network to present a range of topical workshops and webinars. End-of-life expertise may come from practitioners including, but not limited to: death doulas, social workers, physicians, nurses, funeral directors, chaplains, financial advisors, lawyers, and artists.

Our collaborative instruction allows time for applied learning, individual questions, and feedback / coaching:

    Examples of topics we've targeted:

    • Discussing End-of-Life Planning

    • Navigating Anticipatory Grief

    • Managing your Digital Life, Assets, and Legacy

    • Practicing Self-Care for Caregivers

We can also help you host events that normalize death education in non-intimidating, social environments. Types of social events can include a book club, game night, planning / paperwork info session, and field trips to museums and theater shows.
